Advocacy in Mississippi
The Mississippi Chapter is led by advocate Brittany Greer. Brittany is a strong advocate that believes in equal restroom access for all. She has spent time working with the Mississippi Coalition for Citizens with Disability and the Mississippi Parent Training and Information Center.
Brittany is currently reaching out to local businesses and her state representatives to make change in Mississippi.
In January 2023 Brittany and her representatives introduced HB 1048 to the Mississippi House of Representatives. If passed, this bill will require each public building under the power and control of the state, as well as any private or commercial business that is open to the public for assembly or amusement purposes and constructed on or after July 1, 2023, to install and maintain an adult changing station. It will also require buildings constructed before July 1, 2023 to install and maintain an adult changing station by January 1, 2026.
Shortly after introducing the bill, it was modified to become a state-wide grant program, rather than a mandate. It is now awaiting approval by the Mississippi Senate. Click here to view the proposed grant bill: The Universal Changing Tables Installation Incentive Grant Program Act.
