Adult with disabilities uses a universal changing table
I started Changing Spaces Wisconsin in 2016 after years of struggling to find somewhere to change my son, Matthew.
It has had a profound effect on normal family life over the years as our entire family has missed out on so much because Matthew’s basic needs aren’t met in public.
I have had a number of successes in the Milwaukee area and word is slowly reaching farther afield.
In 2020 I was proud to be named Wisconsin Mother of the Year for bringing awareness to this issue.
Advocacy in Wisconsin
Although two legislative efforts have failed, it is encouraging to see some progress in the form of a table installation at the State Capitol and a resolution in Dane County hoping to introduce tables in local public buildings.

In April 2023, a powered, height-adjustable adult size changing table was installed at the Wisconsin capitol building. What a wonderful step in the right direction, thanks to the advocacy of Sarah Knowles and Representative Robyn Vining. We hope many more states will follow this example.
